“The kind of musician that embodies every aspect of the punk rock mentality without needing a mohawk to prove it." ~ Francois Marchand, SEE Magazine
At the end of a tour in support of 2009's acclaimed 13 Songs of Whiskey & Light, Eamon McGrath headed into what would be a six-day retreat in Vancouver's JC/DC Studios along with Dave Carswell of the Evaporators and John Collins of the New Pornographers with over 20 songs he'd written from three tours spanning two continents. Broken hearts, empty bottles, and loud guitars inspired the stories of the songs: stories of retribution, redemption, and resurrection. 2010’s Peace Maker, the resulting CD, bridges gaps between McGrath's Albertan, prairie roots, and the spirit of punk rock that fills both his lungs and his words.
Think Blue Rodeo-meets-Black Flag and you’re getting close—country music that’s punctuated with an adolescent howl served straight, no ice; from an urban centre that stands tall like a tower in the emptiness of Canada’s heartland.
